About Katherine Meredith

Katherine Meredith is an accomplished portrait artist who has been painting portraits professionally for over twenty five years. She is a member of the Portrait Society of America and and accredited member of The Maryland Society of Portrait Painters.

Her style draws from realism and impressionism to create a superb likeness within a gracefully composed painting. “I see the beauty and unique spirit of each subject and strive to capture that in paint -using light, color, composition, and texture, to create the right feeling and mood. I especially enjoy the collaboration between artist and client. I like to make the whole portrait experience memorable and meaningful.”

She started drawing at the age of three, specializing in portraits of family members. In 1976, she got her first big break when she won Kellogg’s “Stick up for Breakfast ” contest, for which the prize was” five dollars a week allowance for a whole year!” (It was not spent wisely.)

A native of Baltimore, MD, she is a graduate of New York University and has lived in New York and California. During her years in Los Angeles, Katherine worked as a textile designer, storyboard artist, muralist, set painter for theatre and film, and provided paintings for the set decoration of the “Paris” Casino in Las Vegas. Her mural work has appeared in Vibe and InStyle magazines. These experiences in other areas of art inform and enhance her portraiture.

Katherine also teaches art in her home studio and enjoys working with children as well as adults.

She continues to study painting and attends workshops with masters in the field of portraiture.
